The "fow" quest is one of a number of quests that you get in the "fow". As in any other quest, you get XP as a reward, and in case of the "fow", a number of quests open a chest with some reward items for selected team members.

Fow -> Fissure of Woe
It's one of the tougher places in the game, costs 1 plat. to get in. |

There are two places accessible through TOA when your country has the favour. One is The Underworld <UW>, and The Fissure of Woe <FOW>, imho, these are FUN places to get into if you want a good time/a place that keeps you on your guard.
Also, you must be through the "ascension" part of the storyline to access these places, and the leader of the group pays one plat, and voila, you're in either FOW or UW. Keep in mind these places aren't to be taken lightly; melee in the UW is deadly as well as aggro/multiple groups in FoW. Quests in both are cool, but I prefer FoW as it's easier overall for a standard group <keep in mind this is MY opinion>, repeatable 5k and 10k quests? Heck! Why not! =) --The Shim |

These are huge areas sometimes hours of time can be spent in there, but if you all die you get spat out back at ToA and have to pay to get back in assuming you still have favor at that point.
FoW is definatly easier for basic groups of people and a good place to get some items that are worth a bit of cash even if your in a full team. It's also somewhere that every class can be very effective, so diverse teams are good for success of the team. |

I find FoW easier at the beginning (note: easier does not mean easy!) but it gets murderously hard when you get to the plains. Gangs of L24 skeletons with mesmers interrupting everyone. Teams usually fall apart and need a few rebirths. At least you can usually recover, eventually, unlike UW where there is nowhere to run.
UW is murderously hard at the beginning but it gets a little easier, so long as people don't take quests at the wrong time. You almost always get one idiot who ignores everyone saying "dont take quests", and takes one anyway. Then it's game over. Plus the UW usually requires special builds because the mobs hit incredibly hard (2 hit kills are common). So I recommend trying FoW first, and go in with a balanced group. For both, don't take ANY quests without asking your group first. Never run ahead, always stay together. One mistake and everyone dies. If you can survive in FoW or UW, it's pretty cool, and the loot is the best in the game. |

Trapper groups in UW are awesome! (note I am not saying they are the best) I love going down in the UW with a good experienced group of trappers. You can get pretty far with 4 even 3 in a group. Very effective if played well.

lol... true to that... I'm terrible at trapping.. and it's so ez to get interrupted too... and now dust and flame trap don't work well since the update on the AI... but barbed and spike done the job too.. haven't tried UW with my ranger... and never done FoW with my monk or ranger either... having a hard time keeping up on the healing thing... ^.^;;
